UN-Habitat's New Framework: Towards inclusive solutions to urban internal displacement

The publication of the new Framework: Towards Inclusive Solutions to Urban Internal Displacement marks a significant advancement in addressing the complex issue of urban internal displacement. This comprehensive resource is designed to assist policymakers and program managers in developing responses that are sustainable, scalable, and transformative.

Aligned with the Secretary General’s Action Agenda on Internal Displacement, the Framework emphasizes that addressing internal displacement requires more than just humanitarian efforts. It must be recognized as a priority for development, peace, and climate action. This guidance is tailored to the unique challenges and opportunities presented by internal displacement in urban settings, a growing phenomenon in our increasingly urbanized world.

The Framework calls for critical shifts in mindset, addresses the foundational principles for policy and programming required, and the essential programmatic elements necessary for holistic and integrated responses. Concrete examples illustrate how these changes can be implemented across various sectors, highlighting the substantial shifts in thinking and acting required from humanitarian, development, and peace actors. We invite you to explore the full Framework and join us in transforming our approach to urban internal displacement.
