High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) 2018
Alliance Participation at the High-Level Political Forum (HLPF)
The High-Level Political Forum on sustainable development in 2018 (9 - 18 July 2018) will be held under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council in New York, with the Urban Goal SDG 11 under review. This will be the first time the urban crises dimension is highly featured at the HLPF, focusing on the humanitarian – development nexus.
In collaboration with the Global Taskforce on Local and Regional Governments, the multi-stakeholder coalition Local2030 is bringing together a cross-section of experts from the public, private, and non-governmental sectors to work with local governments and the UN. The Global Alliance for Urban Crises is contributing to Thematic Session 2: ‘Strengthening Local Government Capacities and Special Needs in Humanitarian and Conflict Settings’ (17 July, 11:30-13:00, United Nations Secretariat Building).
A main side event, organized by the Global Alliance will focus on ‘Implementing the New Urban Agenda in cities affected by disasters or conflict: working across siloes’ (18 July, 18:30 – 20:00, United Nations Secretariat Building) building on the recommendations made at the Ninth World Urban Forum (WUF9) in Kuala Lumpur.
